The government employs the equivalent of more than 60 full-time staff in marketing, media and promotional roles.
The figures were provided by Chief Minister Alfred Cannan in response to a written Tynwald question from Onchan MHK Julie Edge.
Data extracted from the government’s HR system showed a total of 62.58 full-time equivalent (FTE) positions as of January 1 2026. This figure falls to 58.58 when temporary maternity cover positions are excluded.
In his answer, the Chief Minister noted a limitation in the data, saying: “The response may include roles that are not specific to media, promotion and news related roles but whose role meets the key word requirement.”
Departments
The largest concentrations are within the Cabinet Office and the Department for Enterprise. The Cabinet Office list includes a Head of Government Communication and several communications officers, totalling 12 FTE.
The Department for Enterprise accounts for 20.55 FTE, with roles ranging from marketing executives to a TT and Motorsport Sponsorship and PR Manager.
Other departments, offices, and boards such as Manx Care, the Information Commissioner, and Manx National Heritage also have dedicated communications and engagement staff.
Further figures provided directly by several arm’s length bodies, which were not included in the main government total, show additional roles at the Isle of Man Post Office, the Steam Packet, the Manx Utilities Authority and the Financial Services Authority.
The Chief Minister said: “The data above does not include any contractors, agency staff, individuals seconded from other areas outside of Isle of Man Public Service and not being paid by the Isle of Man Government HR payroll system or temporary workers.”
He also confirmed the Manx Development Corporation currently has no staff in the outlined roles.
